SOUCEK AIMS FOR F1 AFTER F2 TITLE

Andy Soucek is aiming for a place in the 2010 Formula 1 field after clinching the title in the revived Formula 2 Championship at Imola today.
The 24-year-old Spaniard has dominated the new series, which was created by the FIA to offer a cost-effective and equal route to F1 for aspiring young drivers.
Soucek has taken four race wins this year, and put the title beyond his rivals' reach by finishing on the podium for the eighth time in 13 rounds at former San Marino Grand Prix venue Imola. The F2 champion's prize is both a test with the Williams F1 team and the superlicence required by all grand prix drivers.
Soucek has already tested for Toyota after winning the 2005 Spanish Formula 3 title, and hopes his Williams outing can be a springboard into F1.
"The test with Williams is a real chance for me to get into Formula 1," Soucek said.
"It's going to be a new experience for me: it will be with slicks, and it will be with Williams who have had a good year.
Hopefully I will have a very good test - I'm going to prepare myself physically as good as I can and if it goes well we will see what happens next year.
I believe I have proved to be a worthy champion and now I hope it leads to a chance in Formula 1."
